I changed the name of my blog! Parent-Driven Discipleship now has a new name: Discipleship Cliff. It’s a place where faith formation meets family life.
Why Discipleship Cliff?
I started the blog with the name Parent Driven Discipleship because my heart is to partner with parents to teach the Bible to their kids. But as I kept on writing, I realized that my focus was broader–helping families build a culture of spiritual formation at home. A place to talk about Family Discipleship. That led me to rethink the name and come up with Discipleship Cliff.
One reason behind the name, Discipleship Cliff, is that it’s personal. My last name is Cliff. This is where you say, Ah, I see what you did there. That’s witty. I’m impressed. Or maybe you didn’t think any of those things 🙂
But more importantly, the name paints a picture. Discipleship isn’t a casual stroll–it’s a big picture perspective AND an up-and-down adventure. It takes effort, intentionality, and sometimes a lot of courage. The good news is that God gives us everything we need to live as followers of Jesus. The Gospel provides forgiveness for us at the time of salvation, and we are progressively transformed to be more like Jesus as we study His Word and experience change brought on by the Holy Spirit living within us. God gives us the tools we need!
Big Picture Perspective
A cliff provides a breathtaking view–a way of seeing the world from God’s perspective. Some people might think that our motivation to live the Christian life comes from our own spiritual highs and successes. Those are great and are worthy of celebration, but that’s not it at all. Our perspective comes when we study God’s Word. As a family, we gain that perspective when we teach and talk about the Word of God with our children. The encounters we have with God through His Word remind us that He has a plan, regardless if things are going great or things are difficult.
An Adventure
Following Jesus certainly has moments of excitement, fun, and comfort. But anyone who has followed Jesus for any length of time knows that following Jesus is not always safe or comfortable–it requires faith, obedience, and a willingness to step out into the unknown. Like standing at the edge of a cliff, discipleship calls us to trust God as we take bold steps in leading our families to know Jesus. Whether it’s teaching our kids the Bible, praying together, or modeling faith in everyday life, we’re constantly growing and being stretched.
