Week Five: God’s Word Grows in Us
Bible Focus
Psalm 1:2-3 “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
Just like many of you, our family has enjoyed some hikes and bike rides in the woods this summer. It’s been a lot of fun. The tricky part is that it’s been super hot, like open the oven door to check the pizza hot, but being under the trees usually makes it bearable. Even with the slight discomfort and irritability that the heat can bring, it’s wonderful to be outside in nature. The entire experience, along with the sights and sounds that it brings, reminds us that God is loving and good.
Psalm 1 paints a beautiful picture taken from nature: a person who loves God’s Word is like a tree planted by streams of water. Just like a tree needs water to remain healthy, followers of Jesus need God’s Word to grow spiritually. God’s Word is life-giving for followers of Jesus. We teach our kids how important the Bible is by reading it, meditating on it, and talking about it throughout the ordinary moments of our lives. This summer, let’s help our families stay planted by reading God’s Word and experiencing the joy that it brings!
