Welcome to the Summer Edition of Parent-Driven Discussions! Summer brings longer days, lighter schedules, and the perfect opportunity to slow down and invest in your family’s spiritual growth. This special Summer Edition of Parent-Driven Discussions offers six weekly conversation guides rooted in Scripture and designed to help you discuss your faith in meaningful ways. Whether you’re around the dinner table, in the car, or sitting on a beach, these short Bible-based family discussions will help you plant Gospel-seeds that last all year long.

Week Four: Forgive Like You’ve Been Forgiven

Bible Focus

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Did you notice? This is the exact same verse we examined last week to discuss kindness on the Run. And yes, we should be kind to one another because God in Christ has forgiven us. That was an important conversation for us to have with our families!

But Ephesians 4:32 doesn’t just call us to be kind. It also calls us to forgive one another, just as God in Christ forgave us. We didn’t earn that forgiveness. We don’t deserve it. But God sent Jesus into the world to live a perfect life, die on a cross for sins we committed, and rise again three days later. Why? So that we can be forgiven! That kind of forgiveness changes everything, and it’s what empowers us to forgive others as well.

When we spend extra time with our family and friends this summer, let’s remember to keep Jesus’ sacrifice in the Gospel front and center. When we are annoyed, hurt, or angry because of words spoken to us or actions directed towards us, let us be reminded that we need soft hearts, prepared to work things out and forgive one another, just as we’ve been forgiven in Jesus.
