Summer break doesn’t come with an instruction manual or even a lesson plan. No homework, no schedules, no structure; just open days and a family ready to fill them.
That’s exactly the kind of space where good spiritual conversations happen.
Here are 10 Bible verses to read together this summer, each with a question to get the conversation started.
1. Psalm 118:24
“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
What’s one thing God gave us today that we don’t want to take for granted?
2. Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
What’s something we’re doing this summer that we could do more intentionally for God’s glory?
3. Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
What’s something you’ve been worried about that you could ask God to help with?
4. Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Who is one person we could show kindness to this summer, and what would that look like?
5. Philippians 4:4
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.”
If our joy really comes from Jesus and not our circumstances, what difference should that make on a hard day?
6. Joshua 1:9
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
What’s something that feels a little scary or uncertain right now, and how does it help to know God is with you?
7. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Can you think of something that felt bad at first but turned out okay? How can we thank God for that?
8. Mark 6:31
“And he said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.’”
What’s your favorite way to rest and recharge, and why do you think God wants us to do that?
9. Deuteronomy 6:6-7
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
When does our family talk about God most naturally, and how can we do more of that this summer?
10. Philippians 1:6
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
What’s one way you’ve seen God working in our family over the past year?
