What do you and your kids look forward to?

Maybe it’s a birthday, the end of the school year, a summer vacation, or something else fun happening this week. Those are the kinds of things that fill our hearts with hope. Something good is coming, and we can’t wait for it.

But we know deep down that those moments don’t last forever. The vacation ends. The day passes. Things don’t always turn out the way we hoped.

The Bible tells us there is a better kind of hope. One that doesn’t fade or disappear.

It is found in Jesus.

Bible Focus

1 Peter 1:3-5“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation read to be revealed in the last time.”

Devotional Thoughts

This passage teaches us that our hope is not just a feeling. I really do think that we should enjoy the many gifts God has given us on this earth. I love vacation as much as the next guy, but a vacation or home remodeling project isn’t going to provide lasting fulfillment. Our hope has to be in something bigger!

Our hope is a person.

Jesus is our living hope.

Because Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again three days later, our sins can be forgiven, and we can be in a relationship with Him. This means our future is secure, not because of what we have done, but because of what Jesus has done for us. And that changes how we live right now. We don’t have to live trying to earn God’s love or prove ourselves. We can look to Jesus as our hope today, trusting Him in our struggles, our decisions, and our everyday lives. Because our future is secure in Him, we are free to follow Him with confidence, knowing He is with us and working in us even now.

This hope is living because Jesus is alive.

That means no matter what your family is going through, Jesus is still with you. He is still working, and He is worth trusting.

This is especially important for your kids to understand.

Your kids’ hope is not in being good enough.
Their hope is not in everything going their way.
Their hope is in Jesus.

And that hope will never be taken away.
