Week Six: Courage to Try New Things

Bible Focus

Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Starting something new can be exciting and scary at the same time. We’re technically still in the middle of summer, but many of us are getting ready for another school year. Whether your kids attend public school, Christian school, cyber school, homeschool, or are too young for any school, your schedule is likely to change soon. The laid-back summer rhythm is about to get busier and more structured. And like we said earlier, change can be scary.

In Joshua 1:9, God spoke to Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Life was about to change for everyone. Was the change good? Yes, but it was something new, and there would be challenges. It would not be easy. In the middle of the big things God was going to accomplish on behalf of his people, he promised to be with them every step of the way. God promised them his presence.

New things can be scary for children and parents: different routines, teachers, classmates, sports, and even new challenges. But God promises to be with us every step of the way. We can be strong and courageous for a new school year and any other challenge that comes our way because the Lord our God is with us wherever we go.
