“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Devotional Thoughts
Paul wrote this letter to the Philippian people from prison. He wasn’t free, comfortable, or sure what would happen next. And yet he says he’s learned to be content, not because his circumstances were good, but because Christ was with him no matter what his circumstances looked like.
That’s worth reading and talking about with your family. Contentment doesn’t come from everything happening the way you want or expect. It’s something you learn, something you build over time by leaning on Christ instead of your circumstances.
