I’m not sure about you, but I’m always looking for thoughtful questions to get a discussion started with my kids. A good discussion helps you connect as a family, discover what’s important to each person, and lead your kids towards truth on their discipleship journey. Use these prompts during family devotions, around the dinner table, or any time you gather together.

Showing Kindness

Kindness isn’t just for easy days or easy people. Jesus calls us to show love even when it’s difficult—when someone hurts our feelings, pushes our buttons, or doesn’t notice our help. That’s the kind of kindness Jesus showed us. He loved people who rejected Him, forgave those who didn’t deserve it, and served even when He was tired. When we choose kindness, especially in hard moments, we’re living like Jesus. And that kind of love can shine His light in powerful ways.

Discussion Questions

  1. How can we respond when someone is unkind to us?
“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” – Matthew 5:44
  2. What does it mean to love others the way Jesus loves us?
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” – John 13:34
  3. How can we be kind to someone who annoys or frustrates us?
“Let all that you do be done in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:14
  4. What can we do when we feel like being selfish instead of helping others?
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” – Philippians 2:4

Family Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving us with perfect kindness. Help us to show that same love to others, even when it’s hard. Teach us to be patient when people frustrate us, gentle when we feel angry, and willing to help even when we’d rather think about ourselves. Please give us the courage to be kind. Amen.
